2005 Overhaulin' Mustang is for Sale on Ebay

formatting link

Chip Foose built this for a lady on the show Overhaulin'. I was telling my wife that she would not appreciate the car when we watched the program....then a few month later she sells it. Go figure.

Wish I had the 50k. that is one sweet ride.

The EXACT same thing happened with the 1970 Sportsroof Mustang he did at the SEMA show. A couple months later it was for sale on EBay also.

As time goes on I've become more and more suspect of the overhauln show.

The last episode I saw was the biggest beater or something like that. They have no concept of a beater. What they picked was some unfinished modification project car from texas. Nothing wrong with it, just that the mods hadn't been finished.

The wheels on that Foosemobile are absolutely horrid. Personally, I'd prefer either of the fastbacks behind the Foosemobile.

They have names for women that are that stupid. I can't think of a single one that is flattering. What a F-ing idiot.

My hubs wrote to them to do Shug when I had her. See , the chose the wrong gal! if they ahd done mine, she would be parked here in garage instead of at someone else's house

What a waste. I hope she gets the 10 year old minivan that she deserves.

I don't think they go more than 5 blocks from whatever CA shop they are using. Ever notice how they don't even come to places like chicago? How when a car has the most mild of surface rust they proclaim what poor condition it is in?

I like to read old car publications from the UK. They know what real rust is. They deal in detail with actual problems, they show the rust damage. The cars featured are often drivers. I mean real drivers that go out rain or shine.

I agree, but there are only so many hours to do a show like that I guess and if they are at all normal, NO ONE really WANTS to tackle a real nasty project. I imagine that stealing one a couple of thousand miles away would be a LOT more complicated.

Hmmmmmmm I wonder if they would do my Libby. "Ohhhhhh Honeyyyyyyyyyy... tell em to steal THIS one!"

*grin*

It sounds like she loved the car as it was before the show, but got all paranoid about devaluing it afterwards. Seriously: Mobil 1 changed every

1,000 miles? What a waste...

I agree; it's one of the very few vehicles I've seen on the various "car makeover" shows that I wouldn't be embarrassed to own and drive.

One thing that may also "force" people to sell these Foose Cars is that the owner is responsible for the Federal, State and Local Income Taxes on the vehicle. For someone with a family this might be a pretty big chunk of Money depending on what all they do, and what value is put on the parts used. I have wondered about the 1967 Chevelle in the Mother's wax commercial, did chip foose buy it back, or did they use it in the commercial to help pay for the taxes on the car.

No kidding?

The impression these shows seem to give is that someone (the producers?) is doing all the work out of the kindness of their hearts, not to mention wallets. As in completely gratis to the so-called victim.

I can just imagine: "Surprise! We stole your car, modded the heck out of it in ways you never wanted, added a stereo that will make your bladder and bowels empty, your heart fibrillate, and your brain liquefy. We also made it all look like someone puked on a couple of pop cans, inside and out. But wait, there's more: [dramatic pause] Here's the bill! [stunned silence] (Come on, pretend you're happy with the car, just for the cameras!)"

On a tangent, regarding Monster Garage: Each episode has a set spending limit, and they seem to stick with it - with one freakin' huge loop hole known as "Freebies." I have occasionally wondered how much, if anything, the "Freebies" cost Jesse James out of pocket...

That's the tax law. If they over value the mods it can really suck. There are quite a few prizes where by the tax laws the people who 'won' them ended up being told they owed more in taxes than buying the prize outright on the open market.

Usually the people who make the stuff provide it for the ad placement

I you go to the Overhaulin' web site you will see a disclaimer on the application for a car to be on the show stating that you are responsible for the taxes on the value of all the products that go into the cars. I don't know if that is limited to just hardware, or does it include the design. What is a Chip Foose Car worth? Some of the cars on the Speed Channel's telecast of the Barrett-Jackson were Foose Designs, and they were going in the 100K range. Overall just the taxes on a Foose Designed car would be a bargin, if you had the cash or a good line of credit.

I wonder about the legality of that. The person filling out the application is supposed to be a friend or relative of the owner, not the owner himself. The person filling out the application doesn't receive the taxable benefit so they don't owe the tax, and the owner who receives the benefit never agreed to have the work done. Doesn't seem right to pay for something you never asked for. And its not like when your mechanic installs a part you don't want. The mechanic has the option of removing the offending part if you refuse to pay for it. The show can't just undo everything they did to your car.

I'm sure the owner has to sign a lot of paperwork before they drive away with their 'new' vehicle. I wonder what happens if they refuse to? Does the show have a mechanics lien for the work they performed on a car that they stole? Unless the person who applied to the show is a registered owner of the vehicle, they aren't able to authorize the removal of the vehicle or the work. So as far as I'm concerned, the vehicle was truly stolen. Do you have to pay a car thief for any new parts he adds to your vehicle or pay taxes on that?

Yeah, but the buyer can unload those godawful rims and tires for about 10 large, to some big pimpin' fool.

So... it's almost a steal for 40k. ;)

and check the auction that's going until 2/7; the car is up to 65,600 right now. I compared the ebay pictures to the one on the flyer and website; same paint job. I saw the show too, but this one is a 2006 model.
