Re: Consumer Advocacy Organization Takes Aim at Auto Repair Shop Rip-offs. Please Help!

Many shops are using misleading advertising, poor quality parts and

>unskilled personnel.

Apparently you do not know what you are talking about.

Shops routinely misdiagnose problems, charging >consumers for unnecessary work.

Most shops use a flat rate pricing based on time, regardless of what is involved to complete one repair.

>The shops that try to do things right struggle to compete in a marketplace >that is out of control, unstructured and largely unpoliced.

BULL

The shops that do things right the first time are more quality oriented (cost more) hire better trained and experienced technicians(cost more) provide excellent working conditions (cost more) and posess the latest technology and tools to perform proper diagnosis (cost more) and often guarantee their work for an extended period of time outside state mandated warranties (cost more) PLUS use factory original or high quality rebuild parts (cost more) AND send their technicians out regulraly for training (cost more) If you own a shop and you do things right, CHARGE FOR IT!!!

>Auto repair is a perennial top five most complained about category and the >problems are not improving.

It is likely the #1 spot in the repair insdustry, unless you contest that there are not as many cars around?

Women and the elderly are especially >vulnerable. There needs to be a rallying point for consumers who have had >enough.

I happen to know a woman that got ripped off on a repair, it was repairshop owned by a woman! I also knoiw a woman that paid more for a

1 yr old Suzuki Sidekick then a new one costed at a dealer. The sales person was a woman.
Together we >can improve the quality of service at our neighborhood garages and reduce >the fraud that victimizes so many of our friends and family.

MAke sure you inform your clients that, once success is achieved , they can count on having to pay twice as much for the 120 dollar repair they are wining about today.

Thank you too Sir.
