1990 Toyota Truck Trouble Shifting

Hi,

My friend has a 1990 Toyota Truck (the one with no model number) that's having shifting problems, and any thoughts as to what the problem could be are appreciated. It'll shift into 1st gear and from

1st to 2nd without problems. However, it'll take five or six tries to get it to shift into 3rd from 2nd. Once in 3rd, the only way to get it into 4th is if it's going downhill. The truck has to be traveling at a significant speed downhill to be able to shift into 5th.

A friend suggested that it could be the sychronizer in the transmission (sounds costly). Wondering if it sounds like anything else.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks! Caryn

It's probably the little plastic bushing at the bottom of the shift lever. Remove the shift lever and check the bushing. When it's bad, there is not much left of it.

Thanks for the advice. Will check it out. Hopefully that's it. Sounds simple Caryn
