coolant contamination

I have 850T5 auto 1997

The coolant expansion tank has some oil contamination, the mechanic is not sure of the cause, he topped up all the fluids 400mile ago but without any conclusions.

Anybody with any suggestions.

You've told us what the coolant looks like. What about the oil (when the engine is hot)? Does it look like frothy like a frappe?

The most common reason for this happening is unfortunately not cheap - a blown head gasket.

Check the tranny fluid id it's an automatic and see if it is brown or RED. If brown then collant water and tranny fluids are swapping with each other in the radiator. This happened to my 89 240 Volvo. The internal cooler of the tranny in the radiator gat a leak and swapped fluid for more that a year. Had to replace tranny and radiator and all the hoses too.

Then perhaps it isn't motor oil in the coolant. What does the transmission fluid look like?
