Fan Clutch?

OK, I've not had a water pump go bad in so long this is different enough to ask a question-- '98 3500 Vortec engine--dags and as I gathered when I looked at it, the fan clutch comes off w/ the large nut. What wasn't answered was is it left- or right-hand thread? Tried a quick rap both ways as a trial, neither broke it loose so didn't want to get more aggressive prior to ascertaining which way is correct. It would appear it should be right-hand from fan rotation, methinks...

Anybody confirm/deny that and any real "tricks" to getting one off?

Thanks...

I do not have a engine in front of me (it is outside and it is dark) but it is easy to determine. When you look at the fan and see which direction it is driven by the hub/pulley, it will cause it to tighten when driven so you will remove it in opposite direction. It can be really tuff because it is tightened by drive torque. You might want to erap a strap wrench around pully to hold it firmly and give the wench on fan a really strong rap with a 2 or 3 lb hammer as a 1 lb one may not cut it here.

Thanks, that's what I was guessing/surmising.

Yeah, it's dark here, too! This is morning's previously unscheduled job... :(
