How to reprogram a key

I found the following:

sounds potentially very interesting, but I can not understand it. Is this a procedure to program the remote control wireless or to program the immobiliser chip? And in the described sequence, which key is the one being trained and which key is the one which was already married?

The key "could" be programmable but at least it contains a unique serialnumber. The car is "teached" to accept the this serial number. I doubt anything ever is "written" to the chip inside the key.

But will this procedure work if you have an immobiliser? When I got a new key the dealer had to use a "VAG Tool" to read a code from the car, send the code to Germany, wait for a replay by fax and then put the code he got from Germany into the "VAG Tool". (Old IR key, not folding key)

The cheaper way is to have the key cloned, then the car thinks the key is one of the original keys, the dealer will not tell you this can be done he will just tell you they have to get the key laser cut from the factory, have it shipped to your dealer, then the dealer programs it to your car, cost £120+ in the UK, luckily when I enquired about this at my dealer they wanted my vehicle log book & proof of identity before they would sell me a key, even though I had driven the car in, luckily a friend directed me to a local key specialist who cut me a key & cloned the chip while I waited, 10 miniutes it took & was only £29.99

Thanks, that was clearer.

Does anyone know whether this procedure only trains the remote control's radio or also registers a key's immobiliser chip with the car.

Steve, I just sent you an email to ask you more about this. Please let me know if it fails to arrive, perhaps on account of spam filtering etc.
