Oil Light on 98 A4 2.8 Quattro

Jul 27, 2003 1 Replies

The oil light comes on at seemingly random times. It seems to happen more often when accelerating, for example, from a light or suddenly going uphill. It eventually turns off. Oil checks out OK.

I asked the dealer about it sometime ago when a similar thing was happening to the engine light also. They recommended changing a switch at $300+ but couldn't guarantee. the engine light stopped on its own but the oil light problem persists. Any clues anyone?

Check your oil pressure gauge at the same time as the light is on. If your pressure is OK, ignore the light. It's the switch.

Are you sure that $300 isn't one decimal off? The switch costs about $15-20 and takes 5 minutes to replace.
