The north speaks Flemish (Dutch), but the Netherlands don't want them because originally the Catholic Flems forced the minority Protestants out, and the latter had to set up home in marshes at a place now called Amsterdam. Despite problems of land below sea level, Amsterdam and the Netherlands thrived and quickly outshone Antwerp and Flanders. Antwerp remains reactionary, with the ultra right Flams Bloch party winning elections and five sorts of police.

The same is pretty much true of the south, with not much love lost between the French and the Wallons.

Which leaves only Brussels...
