hi could any body tell me please , where the starter motor is on a bmw 318i n reg 1996 saloon ,and the best way of getting it off..cheers

No offence, but if you are unable to know where to find the starter motor, are you sure you should be working on it?
Left hand side of the block. Undo the electrical connections (disconnect batt first), then undo the two bolts that go through the gearbox that hold the starter motor in place. The next step is for the mechanically inclined. ;-)
