I have a 96 C3500 automatic which refuses to go over 2000 rpm while accelerating. It doesn't seem like the transmission is slipping because the speed does increase, but the rpms stay around 2000. When you put in in park, the engine does go over 2000 rpm. It also has a slight uneven idle. I'm guessing it might be caused by the same thing. This has the 5.7L Vortec engine. My hunches are, EGR valve, Intake manifold leak, bad transmission. This trusty truck has about 139k miles on it. I don't know much about its history.
Thanks
