a freind of mine that works at a chevy garage told me the reason gm wants you to keep dexcool in your car/truck for 100,000 miles is, that it has a stop leak in it. and that it keeps leakers in service longer so they get out of warranty. anyone heard anything about this?, lucas
i don't know about stopping leaks, it has been proven to cause leaks. Dexcool will attack the plastic like material that the intake gaskets are made of. Fel pro makes a gasket to prevent this from happening. This is one of those things that GM doesn't talk about.

I service plenty of pre 1996 GM V-6s that came with green coolant that have the exact same gasket failures that you're attributing to Dexcool. I also have an intake set from a 99 Grand Am 3100 in the trash right now that remained intact for over 100K miles, they leaked coolant because the manifold bolts backed off (or weren't installed correctly to begin with).
The Fel-Pro gaskets are designed totally different than the OEM gaskets, their (hopefully) longer service life will be a result of the gasket sub-structure being much stronger to resist shearing forces, not because they magically resist Dexcool. Also, Fel-Pro still sells the OEM style gasket.
i should have been more clear. sorry.i meant to say that the cooling system has stop leak in it and thats why they dont want it changed till after its out of warranty. lucas
