6 cyl to 5?

I have a 93 chev. S 10 - 4.3 -that has developed a plugged oil pump from a Fram oil filter. One of the crank bearings has been wallered out and is a knockin now. I am wondering if I can open exhaust and intake valves and still use the engine for a couple of months and run it on 5 cylinders. I am sure the rod bearing is bad and most likely the crank-but a couple of weeks more and I can afford to get one from the salvage yard. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Blaine

I've been running my 4.3 on five... burnt exhaust valve on #3 so pretty much zero compression on that cylinder. Of course I don't have anything knocking and wanting to exit the block. I suspect that will happen in your case. My new heads are a month away.

I always use Fram oil filters for one thing. When changing oil I detected a large glob of something coming out of the oil pan. After the oil had drained I inspected the contents and determined it was filter material. A can of Sea Foam was then used to flush out the system and new oil replaced. I still use Fram filters in my other vehicle-it was just one of those cases that i got a bad one-and with a motor with high mileage 225,000 one can expect to have problems with anything...i also have a 92 Astro van with 295,000 miles and use Fram on it--it is just my luck to get the bad one i suppose.

I guess you never heard that Fram makes the cheapest piece of crap filters on earth? No kidding...
