engine knock

Jan 24, 2004 1 Replies

i own a S-10 from 1992 4.3 liter engine ( 262 cui) without balance shaft and automatic transmission, after a rebuild, bearings and rings and new lifters, i did get more oil pressure ( there wasn`t much left) but i also got a engine knock. at start up with a cold engine there isn`t any problem, the engine runs smooth and no noises, but when the engine is warm the engine knock occurs. the engine does not get warmer than normal and plenty of oil pressure to.i am using 15 w 40 engine oil is there anybody who can tell me where to look and how to fix the problem. i am at a loss, thank you for your time. Dennes

Couple questions How many miles before the rebuild? Did you service both ends of the rods? Did you do this rebuild yourself, and if you did, did you do anything to make sure the bearings were the right size, like use plasti-gauge? Finally, can you describe the sound. Is the tone deep, or a pingy sound? Does changing the timing affect the sound?
