Hello,

I do NOT have an LH vehicle with 2.7 engine, however, for what it is worth, according to the service manual the following steps need to be taken to reset the tensioner during timing chain replacement

This is a quote:

.............

(13) Purge oil from timing chain tensioner using the following procedure:

a) Place the check ball end of tensioner into the shallow end of Special Tool 8186 [

[ the tool appears to be a cup with a center post which will depress the checkball and let the oil out]

b) Using hand pressure, slowly depress tensioner until oil is purged from tensioner

(14) Reset timing chain tensioner using the following precedure:

a) Position cylinder pluger into the deeper end of Special Tool 8186 b) Apply a downward force until tensioner is reset

[according to the illustrations the special tool in this case is used only to ensure that the piston is not pushed too far into the tensioner -- looks like about an inch to half an inch of the piston should be sticking out -- not sure if the drawing are to scale]

(14) Install the reset chain tension into the right cylinder head

..... other installation steps related to chain replacement......

(20) To arm the timing chain tensioner: Use a flat bladed pry tool to gently pry tensioner arm towards the tensioner slightly. Then, release the tensioner arm. Verify that the tensioner is armed(extends).

Once again, I have NEVER performed this job and I do NOT own a 2.7 LH vehicle -- I am simply quoting the manual (and I do not guaranttee the accuracy of the quote). Please do not assume that the quote is accurate, relevant and/or applicable. You should verify all information contained in this post on your own -- I take no responsibility for the correctness, applicability and/or usefulness of the information.

Hope this helps,

Alex

P.S. 2.7 is an INTERFERENCE engine, so I would recommend refraining from attempting to start it until you are sure that the tensioner is reloaded as severe valve/piston damage may occur.
