Truth is that even if the big 3 went bankrupt, the stoppage of domestic US vehicle production couldn't / wouldn't last long. Venture capital and other investment firms would swoop in and organize parts suppliers and assembly plants into new, vertically integrated and self-sufficient corporations. They would not be hindered with the drag of supporting retired former employees with pension and healthcare benefits. They would re-hire the same workers under new contracts.
