UK C6 Pricing announced

Initially, there's going to be two engines (both autobox only) and three specs :-

3.0 v6 24v or 2.7 HDi v6

C6, C6 Lignage, C6 Exclusive

Prices will start at £29,500 for "base-spec" C6, £31,000 for the Lignage spec, then upwards to £38,000 for the Exclusive HDi - it sounds like the diesel will be more expensive than the petrol.

For comparison :- BMW 530d SE Auto, £33,890 BMW 530d Sport Auto, £36,670

Merc E280CDi Classic Auto, £32,165 Merc E280CDi Elegance Auto, £34,265 Merc E280CDi Sport Auto, £35,720

Land-Rover Discovery 2.7TDv6 Auto, £28,490 Land-Rover Discovery 2.7TDv6 SE Auto, £38,490

Don't forget that the S-type and Disco are already using the "all new" HDi v6 lump - it's a joint venture between PSA and Ford.

It's interesting that the press-release specifies Hydractive 3+ (as on top-spec C5s) rather than the Hydractive 4 that was being rumoured.

Good luck, Citroen - you're going to need it to go up against cars like those in the marketplace. They're aiming high. Very high. Too high?

Citroen Press Release, 18th June :- THE NEW CITROËN C6 - ELEGANT SOPHISTICATION

The sublime lines of Citroën's elegant new flagship C6 model are set to glide onto the UK's roads early next year, and the company has now announced indicative prices for the range as well as revealing first details on the impressive equipment specifications that UK buyers can expect to enjoy.

The New C6 is designed to build on Citroën's long and illustrious heritage of creating large, stylish, executive cars, as exemplified by the legendary DS, CX, Light 15 and original 1920's C6. This latest interpretation of individualism does just that by effortlessly combining graceful, coupé-like styling with limo-style comfort and sophistication.

At the same time, Citroën's newest model looks to the future by incorporating cutting-edge features and technologies, some of it unavailable on any other car in Europe, regardless of price. A Head-Up display, active bonnet, hydropneumatic suspension with electronically- controlled springing and damping, speed-sensitive air deflector and laminated side windows are all expected to be standard on most models.

Citroën has revealed that there will be three trim levels in the UK - C6, C6 Lignage and C6 Exclusive - available with a choice of two Euro IV engines: a 215hp 3.0 litre V6 petrol powerplant or a new Twin Turbo 2.7 litre V6 HDi diesel unit. Both will be mated to automatic six-speed gearboxes.

Approximately £29,500 should give drivers access to the luxurious New Citroën C6, with prices for the New C6 Lignage, named after the original concept car, starting at around £31,500. The prestigious, range-topping New C6 Exclusive is expected to cost up to £38,000 for the impressive diesel model.

Accentuating the aerodynamic lines, the New C6's stunning silhouette is formed by a long bonnet, extended front overhang and short rear overhang, so reminiscent of classic large Citroëns of the past. The sizeable glazed area incorporates a large windscreen and frameless doors, ensuring that the cabin area is extremely bright and airy.

At the front, the large, chrome-plated chevrons are flanked by imposing clear-lens headlamps, while around the sleek, toned exterior, the striking alloy wheels, concave rear window and speed-sensitive automatic air deflector, which is cleverly crafted into a saloon-style boot, all add to the dramatic and stylish look.

By pushing the wheels 2.9 metres apart and building the car on one of the longest wheelbases in the sector, Citroën's designers have provided one of the roomiest cabins in the class. And by combining space, ergonomics, comfort and safety to maximum effect, the New C6 will certainly set the highest standards for occupant well-being.

To ensure that it offers a glide-like ride, the New C6 range will be equipped with the latest generation Hydractive 3+ suspension with electronically-controlled springing and damping. And guaranteeing that it is as quiet as it is comfortable, the new model will also feature laminated side windows to help filter out wind and exterior noise.

The New C6 will also showcase Citroën's acclaimed safety and security programme, whilst pioneering new standard features such as an active bonnet. In the event of a pedestrian impact, the bonnet automatically 'pops' up, to create a cushioning effect between the engine and the bonnet itself.

Even by luxury car standards, the New C6 will be exceptionally well- specified. All models are set to feature nine airbags (driver, passenger, four lateral, two curtain and a steering column), electrically-operated front seats, an MP3-compatible audio system with colour screen, alloy wheels and automatic operation of the headlamps and wipers.

Providing exceptional thermal comfort, all New C6 models will come with dual zone automatic air conditioning, equipped with a unique soft diffusion system that favours a uniform blanket of temperature- controlled air over cold blasts. An electric push button parking brake replaces a conventional handbrake, helping to free up additional space between the driver and front passenger.

Over and above these levels of equipment, the New C6 Lignage will feature an innovation first developed within the aviation industry. A Head-Up display projects key driving information, such as speed and navigation details, directly onto the windscreen, reducing the need for drivers to look down and take their eyes off the road ahead.

Helping to keep the bodywork free from bumps and scrapes, New C6 Lignage models will feature front and rear parking sensors that alert the driver, both audibly and visually, to the proximity of obstacles. Safety will be enhanced by the dual-function, directional xenon headlamps, which make for better night-time visibility around corners.

Buyers of the top-of-the-range C6 Exclusive models will want for nothing. The use of high quality wood and chrome around the cabin will complement the heated front and rear leather seats and ensure that passengers enjoy the highest levels of luxury.

A new generation NaviDrive system, with voice recognition, provides access to a hands-free telephone, colour satellite navigation and 6 CD autochanger, while the specially designed JBL hi-fi system, with 10 speakers and an amplifier, ensures excellent sound quality. Citroën's award-winning lane departure warning system, which alerts the driver to unintentional lane changes, will also be standard on the C6 Exclusive.

Eagerly anticipated, Citroën's new flagship C6 model will appeal to drivers looking to express their individuality and style. Its inspiring design lines, luxurious interior, and high levels of technology, combined with Citroën's history of producing remarkably beautiful and comfortable large cars, will deliver something unique and exclusive to the executive world of motoring.
