Was that a Z06?

Just to stir things a little, some of us have seen the new Z06 and there are loads of people that think, as always, this is "The one". My take is that it is no better then the half hearted try for the super Corvette that the ZR1 represented. To the average driver it's going to be a Corvette, to the Corvette driver it's going to be a Corvette; oops, I think that was a Z06 (ZR1), and to the pointy nose Corvette driver that has a Z06 it is "The one". Many good advances in the mechanics and structure but dressed like it was Jane.

Both the ZR1 and the new Z06 will go un-noticed until you're right on it or in it. While they were changing the fenders, nose, and the hood would it have been such a job to change the rear end and make it a distinct Z06 instead of a C6 with a slight face, shoulder, and hip lift? Maybe more tire, lower, a hood scoop instead of a nostril, sleek mirrors with turn indicators, and some performance options like a 4:10:1 rear gear?

A fellow club member got rid of his ZR1 for some of those reasons besides it being his most depreciating Corvette. He replaced it with a neat Mustang from 1966 when Hertz got into "rent a racer". It sits beside a white GT350, his only cars that are not Corvettes that go like '53, '54, '55, 56, '57, '58 on up to a '69 L88 and a '84.

The Zo6 motor is handbuilt , and, i think that will keep it 'a special Corvette' for a long time to come. The incredible performance will no doubt help.

Sure could not agree more with your comments....BUT to be honest after seeing the new ZO6 at Carlisle I can tell you it knocked my socks off BIG TIME...

Those fender flares in the back are absolutely awsum ...the car, like the ZR1 wider then the normal Vette in the ass end...and the flares "show" on the Z06...they did not on the ZR1... BUT to my wife and millions of other people it will just be another Car..and only a small fraction of those people will even know it is a Corvette ..hell my wife still has a hard time telling a Corvette from a Camero. .

At least with the C5 the Z06 had a very distinctive roof line...(same as the 99 & 2000 FRC's... (I was looking for the right 2000 FRC all weekend at Carlisle) ... The new Z06 has the exact same roof lines as the coupe.. not easy even for me to tell the difference from any distance...(actually a group of us were camped out & sitting about 150 foot from the Kerbeck Tent at Carlisle and it took the bunch of us 10 minutes to pick out the silver Z06...and this is before we ran out of beer...

As for the ZR1... just not enough parts for it at the Local Napa Store.. a club member sold his a few years ago after discovering it cost him 800 bucks just to replace the spark plug wires...Still I would not mind having one in my garage...saw a couple for sale UNDER

20K... did not look close because my 95 has the same looks especially at 65 MPH...but like the ZR1 it is worth less today ten yesterday...

Oh and you should jump the stated value on your 72... 11K would be what a basket case original car would bring today... open the check book and write a 100 buck check instead of the 87 bucks ... The Selling prices of "nice" cars.. not just Corvettes... has skyrocked in the last year... BB Chevelles and 68 Vettes hitting hitting the

40's...did I mention that a Rustang sold for 98K in the Spring at Carlsisle... WACKO...but the Mustang was rare as hell..all the right stuff and completely original ..

64 & 72 Ragtops 76 79 & 95 Coupes... will add a USED C5 Z06 or 99 - 00 FRC as so>Just to stir things a little, some of us have seen the new Z06 and there are

All very valid and accurate comments. It presents a good case for buying a vintage Vette. You may not have the performance of the newer Vettes, but the early Vettes sure stand out in a crowd. And they're loads of fun to drive around town and short trips.

I haven't actually seen one yet but check out the latest Car and Driver magazine, (Oct. '05) it's FAR from "half hearted"
