Power steering bracket and new crate motor. HELP!

I've got a new ZZ4 crate motor in my '72 Z28, and I can't install the lower power steering bracket because it hits the timing chain cover (which is a new design). I also noticed that the mounting boss on the water pump (with the bolt hole) is slightly different, such that the pulleys don't line up quite right even if I could put the bracket on. Does anyone know of a bracket that will fit the new motors and the old pump?

I called the dealer where I bought the motor, to see if they had a recommendation for another bracket, but their suggestion was to replace the water pump and timing chain cover on my new motor! I would much rather just have a custom bracket made, if that's what it's going to take.

Thanks for your help. Dave

My answer to the dealer, "Sure if you're going to provide the needed parts for free, why not! I can use good and clean brackets".

Call up GM's performance parts hotline and speak to one of the folks there and ask. Someone is bound to know. Probably late 70's brackets would work.

I'd bargain that most combinations of those 350 brackets are still available from GM.

Look in any chevy car magazine or web site you will find billet brackets but the cost a lot. Also check out Pace or Scoggins Dickey Chevrolet on the web for a factory bracket. ...

I've looked around quite a bit, and the only thing I've found are really expensive serpentine belt setups, which also relocate the alternator, etc... I really don't want to get into all that. Besides the expense, I'd like it to be more like the original setup. It looks like I can fabricate a pretty simple bracket that will work pretty well. I just thought maybe someone had already done that.

Thanks anyway, Dave
