Water Pump from *HELL*

It looks like the seal on my 1992 Toyota Pickup V6 is leaking. Gods, what a pain in the ass. It appears I must remove the timing belt, and then the bloody fan bracket, and then the bloody crank shaft pulley, #1 timing belt cover, timing belt guide, crankshaft timing pully, and finally the water pump.

Shhot me! Someone, please SHOOT ME NOW!

I don't know how to do any of this.

Must I use the special service tools? If so, where the hell does one get them?

Or.... just shoot me.

You may want to look at this on u-tube.

I would have thougth you had changed the belt a couple of times on a 92. They recommend about every 60,000 miles. At that time, it is also good to spend a little more and replace the water pump at the same time as there should not be any more for the labor.

Thank you: I will indeed look at the video.

The timing belt was replaced seven years ago, and the vehicle had been driven maybe 5,000 miles since then (I could look at the receipts which includes the odometer reading, but.... why?!) since it is only driven on a cattle ranch and not actual roads. The water pump was replaced back then.

The "coolant" froze solid two years ago: the thermostat prevented me from daining the system completely, so most of the coolant was bad. I suspect the freezing ice blew the gasket.

At the moment I have the assembly disassembled down to the crank shaft pulley. I am still looking for the timing marks on the belt, but they might be faded.

What the hell would I do without Google and Usenet? (Oh, I know.... shoot myself.....)

So, the water pump has been removed: the repair manual said I had to remove the crank shaft pulley, but I did not need to. Whew! I very much hope I remember where all of the pieces go.

Rock Auto's catalog lists a few wrong part numbers for the vehicle; that is, they sent the correct parts that the catalog claims will match my Toyota's engine (3VZE), but a few of the parts don't fit. Apparently there was "a VIN split" and getting gaskets that fit has been a real pain in the ass. The coolant by-pass hose is wrong, and the gasket, and the timing belt gasket kit.

Argh.

You may be able to borrow tools you don't have from one of the aftermarket parts houses.

As to the 'put it back together take decent photos and verify you can see what you need to do.

I put in a bit of water pump lube after reassembly and test.
