'02 Explorer 4x4 Control Trac engages when turning

Aug 28, 2003 1 Replies

Vehicle is a '02 Ford Explorer 4x4 v8. Recently started, when performing tight turns such as in/out of a garage or parking space at slow speed, the Control Trac seems to engage the front tires and they grind and jump during the turn. Sortof like forcing the vehicle into

4x4 then making a tight turn. Does not do it all the time.

Any suggestions? Trip to the dealer? At least it is under warranty if the latter is needed.

Got the car back and they claim there were two problems. The Throttle Position Sensor (replaced) and that their was air in the power steering system. They bled the system and I have not had a problem since. The position sensor was causing the 4x4 to lock up when it should not. The air was causing the sensation of something rubbing during tight turns. It sounded like the 4x4 locking in.

Hopefully all problems are gone now. ==========================================================
