Valve Jobs OHV vs SOHC engines

Just curious- anyone know what's the typical mileage before a valve job is needed? The original OHV V6 has cast iron heads, the SOHC has aluminum heads. In ancient times, seems like it was normal to do a valve job at 100,000 miles. I recall being amazed at the condition of the valves in the first aluminum head I saw- apparently they run cooler.

A guy at work has one with over 400K on the original engine.
