Buying an '06 Ford Five Hundred AWD; any issues to look out for?

Apr 25, 2008 1 Replies

I'm looking at an '06 Five Hundred, 42K miles, with AWD and the CVT. Have there been any outstanding issues with this vehicle?

I like the looks of it, the test drive went well. I like the five star crash rating. I'm not so concerned about the Duratec, my buddy had a Taurus he put 180k on with no problems. I am a bit concerned with the CVT and AWD. Are they quality units? Should I expect any issues, and if so, how hard is it to find parts?

Thanks!

Jim

I have no experience with the Ford CVT, but fwiw, I owned a Nissan Murano with AWD and CVT, logged 120K and never had a problem of any sort. I didn't realize Ford even offered a CVT on any of the larger cars.

From what I've read, the greatest stress factor is when it's really cold... probably not a great idea to floor it until it's had a chance to warm up.
