HI THERE .

I have a 1994 ford escord diesel van 1.8L it went in for the mot and failed on excessive wear to the rack

I would like to replace it , myself , i have done loads of mechinical stuff in the past , but when i look in the manual it says i have to remove the subframe ???? can anyone confirm this , or is there an easier way i know the book always shows the right way of doing things and not necessary yhe easiest

I HAD A QUICK LOOK with a big torch and i seem to be able to get to the bolts easy enough , but i think the problem is with the withdrawing it completeley ?????

Ps) how to i test for wear in a sechond hand rack ??? visually or what up down ? leaks ????/

any help most welcome

Is the problem sloppy steering? If the rack doesnt leak, make sure the problem is NOT the inner tie rods, or tie rod ends. Those are usually replaceable without removing the rack

If the book says to drop the sub frame, that is USUALLY due to oil-pan clearance. You should be able to see that possible problem.
