More Data For Bob Urz - Ford Taurus

My intent is to drain the ENTIRE cooling system, refill with plain water, run engine, drain, refill again with water and Prestone Super Flush (active ingredient = sodium citrate) run, with heater on until engine has been hot for ten minutes, drain, fill and rinse hot, drain again and refill with coolant (70%) and H20 Thanks, Neal

Common taurus problems:

Water pump. Bearing wears eccentric and impeller scrapes on housing. If your pump has never been replaced, i would.

Thermostat: i would replace it for good measure.

Radiator: not uncommon for them to leak from the seams. Looks close for wetness at the seams. The end tanks are crimped on to the core. I have also had one leak from a crack in the end tank. Look for wisps of vapour when hot. Radiator replacement is the only solution there. (or rebuild)

Fans: sometimes the relay module can cause erratic fan operation. The relay module is above the radiator. There is a temperature sensor that controls the computer and the fans too which could cause a problem.

New hoses are a must if your doing some work.

Check the oil, is there any water or milky stuff in it? Although unusual, its not unheard of for a 3.0 to have head gasket failure.

Good luck.

Bob
