Weird problem with my '05 Santa Fe

Driving to the airport this morning to catch a flight and running a little late. I was booking down I476 to the Philly airport and had someone pull over to the left in the exit lane. I gunned it to pull around him before the guy behind me plowed into me and then let off the gas a bit to merge on I95 my CEL came on and the car went into 'limp home' mode.

I did 25 MPH for a few minutes until I came to a place with a wide shoulder and pulled over and shut it down. I checked the fluids, cables, etc and everything looked OK. I restarted the car and it drove OK, thought the CEL is still on. I was able to accelerate, shift, brake, etc, but the cruise control would not 'set'.

It's sitting in the airport lot right now as I won't be home until tomorrow night. I'll get it checked out at the dealer (or have the code read at my mechanic) on Saturday, but can't figure out what could have made it do this. Any idea what could have happened?

When my throttle position sensor (TPS) started to go, it acted similar in that shutting down and restarting it would be OK again for a couple of days. The CEL went out after a day or two also. I had it replaced, but if not, it would eventually not reset. .

Of course, there may be 100 other things t hat would act that way too.

That and the accelerator position sensor (similar sensor on the pedal) would be consistent with the symptoms.

Thanks Guys. Are either the TPS or the accelerator position sensor covered under the 10/100K warranty?

Flying back in tonight and will have it at the dealer tomorrow.

The TPS was covered under the 60,000 mile portion. Of course, mine died at

67,000 miles. It was about $180 installed.

This did end up being the Accelerator Position sensor. Covered under warranty.

They got me for $65 for a new wiper arm, the dirty rats! :-)

Thanks to all for the assist. Jon

Thanks for posting the resolution. So many people ask for help, then you never hear if anything worked.
