2.5 and 3.0 liter V6s. The 2.5 is rubbish.

Also 2.0V6 and 2 litre diesel, depending on the market.

Sweeping statement based on what? Rubbish compared to what? another jag costing twice as much? Of course it is. Rubbish in comparison to a C class merc, a lexus 200 a BMW 3 series....no it isn't I know!

first of all i am not a troll.

The X types built at Halewood are thrown together by single mums and agency staff. This is a real problem for the site, lets take the X Type estate. They now use agency labour that start on a Monday, these have in some cases just been released from Walton Prison the previous Friday, they turn up with their social worker. By Wednesday they leave, this is a bone of contention with the T&GWU at the site, my work takes me around several UK car plants and no other operate like this.

Oooh I love a bit of controversy! The X-Type looks hideous (inside & out) and feels hideous. The autobox seems to have a mind of its own and the FWD version eats its tyres. Push it hard into a bend and it displays an unbecoming sideways slither. Best of the bunch is the 2-Litre two wheel drive model (almost as quick as a

3 Litre) which feels almost as good as a Mondeo. (PS don`t ever rely upon the displayed fuel range: "20 miles to go" means you are probably out of fuel! Peter

What so you have one? Have driven them all? Hmmmmm opinion's of someone that read's too much and does too little, what do you drive anyway?

I have one it's not hideous it's is far better than my last car (mondeo, which ate tyres and slithered in bends!) and the four-wheel drive handles great. 2 litre as fast as the 3 litre....LOL

My 2.5L is demonstrably faster than the two litre...this (again) i know having tried it....why dont you just go away and stop spouting ill-conceived opioions that are obviously not even your own. Just recycled junk from trolls

Right I'm bored now...going to go drive my X Type and smile at the appreciating looks it gets while various BMW's Mercs etc fly past getting no more notice that the average taxi. And smile again as I set off from the lights in the wet, the four wheel drive taking me away smoothly and quickly. While the BMW driver's RWD setup slithers all over the road, makes loads of squealing and goes no-where.

I love my car...and so do lots of others..Fact!

You sound like a disgruntled employee. Did you get fired from Jaguar? FYI, I love my 2.5 X-Type.

Funny thing, Here in the US, the X-Type is respected as a great entry-level Jaguar and has been seen as such in auto magazines. If you are so hung up on more expensive Jag's and want to demean those who own X's. Get a life. Own 2 X's and love them. Both US 2.5 models. If we could afford them, would both be S-Types, but we can't. Get over your attitude and recognise them as good cars. Paul

Well, as a matter of fact, I have driven all X-Type variants and pretty well every other Jaguar ever made (I currently own eight). I have driven the SS100, C-Type, D-Type, XKSS, E-Type, S-Type, Mks:1/2/5/7/8/9/10, 420/420G, All the XK`s and all XJ`s from the first through to the current XJR & XKR....shall I go on? Most of these have the ability to excite & thrill in their own way, whether performance, handling or looks. The X-Type however, whilst doing the job perfectly well, has nil excitement, average performance and the ability to enrage (Gearbox, fuel & Tyres). One customer came in to-day rueing the day he`d bought it (a 3-Litre FWD) - having had a blow-out at 80 mph on the M-Way; he`s spending a fortune on tyres.... The beauty of my V12 Jaguars, for instance, is that gear changes seldom, if ever, have to occur, whereas the X-Type (auto) never stops changing - it has a mind of its own. I drove one of the paddle shift auto conversions which was a considerable improvement, but only helped show the lack of torque that the engine has. I am not a disaffected employee at all; I love Jaguars passionately and make my living from them, but X-Types are specifically excluded from my stock list (except on Sale or Return) Peter Hugo

Guy, that was close to my original comment even if the car was a looker (!) and was engineered to a1 quality, the way its put together, is to say the least poor, people who drive the cars would notice this after time e.g. boots(trunks) that don't lock, squeaks, leaks ect ect. But the poor rep the car attained in its launch has cost jaguar dear, people buy a different brand and all been well with it,stick with its when its time to re-new it. I doubt the x type will ever sell in the numbers projected, its already produced in small numbers ( eg 60% of plant capacity). so were do jag go from here, I bet a re design.

Gee; that doesn't seem to be a problem with the AWD 3.0 Sport.

*5-speed*.

Because you're saddled with all the boring ones? Or maybe you've just managed to miss the best one in your driving of "all X-Type variants". You've certainly managed to *ignore* it in your insightful analysis consisting primarily of wishing for a bigger engine and a nice-shifting slushbox. Maybe you ought to try one of *your* Jaguars where my X-Type has been happily driven for the past few weeks: in Wisconsin snow at temperatures below -10F.

Whilst I was in New Zealand recently I popped in to a Jaguar dealer on the South Island. The salesman was ranting about the X-Type's saying that they were nothing but trouble for him and that Jaguar basically appear to have used the public to trouble shoot the cars for them. They are somewhat better now apparently but the earlier ones were very troublesome.

He also said that the X350's just sell themselves. The owner drives out of the show room and they don't see them again until the next service.

I guess you get what you pay for.

I'm beginning to wonder if the LHD and RHD X-Types are assembled in the same factory. Seems to me the assembly location sticker on my US-spec car says Coventry. Is that the same as Halewood? Maybe Jaguar is foisting all the crap X-Types on those countries where you drive on the wrong side ... ;^)
