I'm traveling to the snow country this weekend. I'm deciding which car I should take. The Jag has a positive drive rear end. This should be good on ice and snow, yes?
I'm also wondering if these cars will accept chains.
Thanks
Paul

Drive carefully as my XJS V12 understeers terribly on any snow or ice surface, the torque makes it a handful at the backend too.

I would assume it would work as well as any other 4000 pound rear wheel drive car.
Consisdering I've never driven on snow and ice, is that a no?
P.
I take that as a definate no... I just thought it ight be better than a one wheel drive car.

I can't answer directly (luckily I don't have to deal with ice & snow any more and didn't own a Jag when I did) but I think the XJS rear wheelwells are pretty tight for chains (you might end up trashing the fender lips). You could invest in snow tires, but not for just a weekend trip.
I think I'll rent an SUV.

Good Idea!!
you would really have to buy studded tyres to use your XJS, without them you will find an unnerving lack of steering at anything over 2mph. Good fun but scary too, I suppose you could run your tyres down to 5Psi and rely on the rims to cut in!!!
have a good weekend

I used to drive my XKE on ski trips back in the '70's
The positrack worked very well and the car handled very well in all but the worst conditions. Only once did I have to chain up and that was after an 18 inch snowfall in Whistler B.C.
I came back across three mountain passes using only Michelin all season radials. I wasn't going to put those chains back on for anything.
If your car has the clearance for chains, go ahead. I have driven in horrble winter weather for many years and am experienced in driving in it.
If you are not, the best idea might be to rent an SUV.
I no longer drive either of my Jaguars in the winter. '68 E-Type OTS--the one I had in Whistler-- and a '94 XJ40 Richard H. Kuschel "I canna change the law of physics."-----Scotty
We wound up driving my girlfriend's Caddie.
It was a spectacular trip.
