I really don't understand why so many people are openly hostile towards Craig. Let's put this in a different perspective....

Suppose for a moment that you have an automobile which you own free and clear. You wake up one morning and decide that you no longer need it, and advertise it for sale in the local newspaper. It is a fairly new car, and it has a retail value of Twenty Five Thousand Dollars.... a buyer comes along and says "Hey listen... I really like your car, and I'd like to buy it, but I only have Two Thousand Dollars saved up right now.... will you take Two Thousand dollars down, and let me pay you five hundred dollars a month till it is paid off?" You look at the guy, and he seems like an honest person... hell, you even ask around, and his friends say that he is trustworthy... so you write up a contract. The contract says that the buyer is going to pay twenty five thousand dollars for the car. He is going to give you two thousand dollars down, and pay you five hundred dollars a month, till the car is paid off, and that you will retain legal ownership of the car till it is paid off. If the buyer fails to make payments as promised, you can come and pick up the car, because it is still legally yours untill he pays for it in full.... The buyer signs the contract, gives you two thousand dollars, and drives off into the sunset.

The buyer makes two payments of five hundred dollars, each payment is on time and you think you have nothing to worry about. When the third payment comes due your buyer fails to show up with the payment. A few days go by, and you still have not heard anything from him, but you wait paitently for your payment. After several weeks, you call him on the phone and ask him why he is late... he mumbles something about forgetting to pay, and promises to drop by your house later that day with his payment. He never shows up, and when you call him the next day, he refuses to answer the phone. There you are... you sold your car to a really nice guy who signed a contract promising to pay you twenty three thousand dollars... he made two payments... he still owes you twenty two thousand dollars, and he refuses to talk to you. You mail him a letter, asking him to pay, and the postman returns the letter to you saying "he moved away, and left no forwarding address"

You ask around, and his former neighbors tell you where he has moved... you drive over to his new house and see your car parked in the street. You knock on the door, but he refuses to answer. No problem... you have the signed contract in your briefcase which says you have every right to pick up the car, so you reach in your pocket and pull out the spare key you kept just in case you needed it.... only to find that your "Buyer" has changed the locks....

Would YOU expect people to think tha YOU are scum because you trusted someone, and loaned them twenty three thousand dollars?

Exactly what makes you think that the poster is a 'legitimate business man'?

A professional repo man would have been prepared to trailer it away. He most certainly wouldn't be asking on usenet how to steal the bloody thing.

I think you should assume that Craig has seen a car he likes the look of but doesn't want to pay for. Wanna help him ?
