Looks like the end of RAMJW for me - damnit. I'm going to miss it.
Got home after our month long road trip and found a note from them saying they are cancelling it altogether. No, I don't want to subscribe through some other company, and I'm not wanting to go through another bit of software - I'm stubborn that way. Old, irish, female - don't even try.. So, how could this group stay in touch after usenet finally goes the way of the 14.4 modem and the floppy disk drive?

You won't need another piece of software, just what you have now.
If all you do it the text news groups there are free services out there.
The other option is going to a forum. There are several that are tied into the news groups.

No, wait, there IS one of you that I saw on a forum.... took me the longest time to realize he was a regular here too. One good thing about the web based forums, the idiots get the slack yanked out of their chains pretty quickly.

Kate - do the free newsgroup thing, it is really no bother at all.
news.motzarella.org yesterday changed its name to news.eternal-september.org.
I use the news.motzarella.org for free and it just works fine. All you need to know is on their website.
