Cherokee electric windows

My 1998 Cherokee has had both front window lifts fail in the last 9 months. Both failed because of a small nylon tab that was poorly designed. The $105 replacement assemblies (you can't buy the $.05 broken piece) sported a redesign, where the weak nylon peice has been replaced by a peice of hopefully more durable stamped steel.



I have saved receipts and am preparing to make a case for reimbursement. I'd like to hear of similar experiences, to give me some more ammo. Also, had anyone had any luck getting this replaced after the main warranty has expired? (I know this happens, as they replaced my bad brakes 2 times after the warranty expired.)

The drivers side window failed on me last year but I had the 5/75,000 warranty from Chrysler so they fixed it under warranty... well it did cost me $50 and of course that door didn't lock after that. I didn't notice that it no longer locked for about a month (keyless entry) and of course that had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the dealer monkey's worked on the door a month earlier. $50 bucks thankyouverymuch, sucker.

No problems with any of that since then, knock on wood.

No, the failure on both of mine is the plastic insert that sits at the end of the coil, and which transfers the lifting force of the coil to the window.

In both of mine, I had to replace a like-new mechanism just because the 5 cent plastic peice is not accessible. I guess some mechanical engineer made a 10 cent cost improvement, and got a bonus, when he designed in the plastic part. Kinda like GE and the coffee maker, where the cheap fuse saved a nickel, but didn't wotk all the time, and ended up killing a bunch of people.

So, Is there any PM that we XJ owners could do (lubrication?) to keep from experiencing this?
