Computer question

Someone I know may have fried their computer while welding. They tested all of the circuits by disconnecting the negative battery cable and hooking a test light to see if there is a short but couldn't find one. Is there a way to test the computer easily? The jeep won't hold a charge and the battery seems ok when charged. The alternator has been replaced. Is there somewhere else they should be checking?

this is _extremely_ rare and often misdiagnosed. electricity follows the shortest path to ground making it _almost_ impossible (i did say "almost") to actually fry the computer from welding. welding close to the computer however, can cause enough of a magnetic field to disrupt things.

have you actually taken the battery down to your autoparts store to have it tested? ive had several batteries "seem" to hold a charge yet they couldnt pull the load of cranking the vehicle. sounds like either a battery issue or a loose connection at the starter/battery.

Well it sounds like this Jeep starts and runs well but the battery drains down with the engine not running. Is this correct?

Did you check the voltage while the vehicle was running?

If there are no drains when the ignition is off then I would assume that the battery is defective. Will the battery hold a charge if it is disconnected from the vehicle?
