Kc Daylighters

Hi Everyone, I'm installing a pair of KC Daylighters to my Jeep Liberty(2002) and want to wire them into my high beam, has any one done this, as KC say consult your dealer as the circuit is controlled by the on-board computer system and may not allow this, my local Jeep Dealer is not sure about this so I will ask the experts, waiting for your replies, many thanks ........Frank (UK)

Just go to either of the two headlight plugs and carefully... do a very good job here... splice into the high-beam wire to control the KC relay.

There are two ways to do that. You need a relay for both.

One is to use the highbeam power for the relay trigger and have the lights just come on with the highbeam switch and the other way is to have the relay trigger power 'activated' and use a single wire to a switch inside for the trigger ground so the driving lights have their own switch.

Man, they always want folks to run a ton of wires all over creation...

I prefer to power the relay trigger on pin 86 with the high beam (or whatever I am using for it, even the battery wire) signal and run one small ground wire from pin 85 through the dash to a switch. I then use a short wire to ground the switch.

That way if vibration or something gets to the wire, the worst that will happen is the lights turn on. No melting of wires, no sparks, etc....

I have one micro mini push button switch for my Hella's.

They still want you to have one or 2 hot (positive) wires through the firewall.

I prefer one ground through the firewall.

Mike, that's how I control my KC's relay... via a ground-wire through the firewall to the switch.

I believe it is the best by far way to go on an off road rig. Vibration and heat is always an issue with any added wires or parts.

I just tag the battery wire in a short loop to pin 86 because I want to be able to turn on my lights anytime.

I use the Hellas off road in the day for visibility to oncoming ATV's or dirt bikes on our trails. Only ever had one bike have to pull a 'ditch or die' in front of me so far. At least he had the time to decide.... Don't need to wear out the Jeep light bulbs when trail running.
