Sudden vibratrion in 04 GC

Apr 04, 2004 6 Replies

Cruising at 110 kays (about 70mph) my 2004 GC Overland began vibrating - it felt like (but wasn't) a flat tyre. The vibration, which was quite violent, didn't stop as the vehicle slowed, but was gone when I next drove it (about

30 minutes later) and has been felt since. There was a burning smell when the vehicle stopped. Any suggestions on a possible cause much appreciated. By the way my GC is a 2.7 litre 5 cylinder diesel which I know you can't get in the US or Canada, but I think it's only the drive-train that is different - in all other respects its the same spec worldwide. Thanks ..ian

Is that Bill or the Jeep blowing up? :-0

Wheel bearings perhaps ? Do the hubs feel hot / any black oil or grease coming out ?

perhaps the handbrake was set?

Ian did pass the time by typing:

For a 2004, I'd be taking it back to the dealer.

A stuck brake caliper could heat up and warp a rotor, causing pretty violent vibration that could go away when everything cools down, but it will come back when the brakes get hot.
