Didn't they (NHRA) outlaw SWB Jeeps back in the '60s?

What Stock Automatic class would a 4 liter WJ run?

I'm pretty sure they don't have classes for 4wd.

So, if you have a 4WD, you have no class???

I've been accused of that but then I've also seen videos of Grand Cherokees running at drag strips.

The techs would have to class them somewhere...... even if it is just the Saturday morning practice runs.

The 4.7 would run in a pretty slow class..... something like V/SA but the

4.0 is about 2 seconds slower.

Yes, I have seen 4x4s running at the strip also, in bracket classes, but the NHRA does not have a stock eliminator class that includes any 4wd vehicles that I know of. Bracket racing is a whole different animal.

Since Wranglers aren't allowed on a strip, it doens't really matter if wheel spacers on a Wrangler are illegal, does it?

Tell you what, I'll race your Thunderbird with me in my TJ, but since we can't do it on a strip I will pick another course:

I think Bill's original point was that using spacers weakens an already questionable drive system.

Spacers are not designed for sudden torque loads as you would find in drag racing or off-road driving.

They also negatively affect your steering geometry and add to your unsprung weight which has several consequences of its own.

For slight rubbing issues the steering stops can be adjusted. If that is insufficient you should replace the wheel rims to move the tires outward. Moving the tires out by any means will also add stress to your wheel bearings requiring additional maintenance.

As I no longer recall what type/year Jeep we are discussing this may be as simple as inexpensive wheel bearings or a whole new and expensive hub.

Oh, I know what his point was but I would think torque loads like you find on a strip are less of a problem on the OP's YJ than the extra lateral stesses of the larger tires in most off-road situations. Dragstrip requirements are just not relevent in that case.

Don't recall the OP saying he planned on drag racing.
