Windshield header leak

Any clue what's causing a leak to occur from my windshield header every time it rains? I have to park with my tail end up so the water drains out the front floorboard drain hole when it rains.

Windshield header, not heater box. My drip comes from where the soft top header touches the top of the windshield. It drips right from the corner where the roll bar attaches. It's gotten worse lately.

Scott, Jeeps are notorious for leaking around the windshield seal. I had the same problem. I have a CJ-7 but I'm pretty sure the TJ's have the same design. I placed a bead of black silicone around the windshield seal of my CJ-7 and my it no longer leaks.

Which type of Jeep and soft top? Some are worse than others. There are fixes but they depend on exact model of Jeep and soft top. If it is a YJ then half doors or full steel doors is a very important datum. A digital photo would be awesome.

You could get in the car and have a friend or spouse direct a spray of water at the problem area with a garden hose. This will help you to locate exactly where it is getting in.

The newer ones are glued in place. I liked the old rubber seals myself but there was that leakage problem. If you do EMS though you can't beat having the option to cut the windshield out without getting broken glass all over the place.

Scott more than likely the gasket is drying out and has shrunk a little they can do that. I have used Dow Corning 55 o-ring lubricant coating the gasket liberally let it set leave a thin coat and lock it back down. Also if you coat the gasket at the cowling on both sides it will last for years with out fear of leaks.

Check your seal. If there is any dirt or sand in it at all it will leak. Take the header bar off and clean it with a damp rag. Do the same for the top of the windsheild area where the softer plastic seal is. Litterally 5 grains of sand in the seal used to make mine leak.

But Jeep works.
