Wrangler Bug Deflector?

I'm considering a bug deflector for my '01 Wrangler. Do they work? Best looking model that offers easiest, cleanest installation?

Thanx, Bob

Do they work?... Sure, they protect the 3-4" strip of the hood behind them. Don't waste your money, JMHO.

Mine had one when I bought it. Didn't work worth crap and I ended up tearing it off.

I think they are marginally effective on a vehicle like a sedan with clean aerodynamics, though they do screw up that carefully engineered airflow pattern over the top and sides of the vehicle. When your rig has the aerodyanamic properties of a cement block, you can't expect an itty bitty piece of plastic to have much effect besides protecting the leading edge of the hood from stone chips.

Unless you just like the look, don't bother.

They don't work on a Chevy pickup either.

Also if you go offroading this and the side steps will be the first trail modification on your jeep. In other words it will break. Look in JP magazine and see how many offroaders have them - 0. There is a reason!

Do 'real' jeeps have bug deflectors fitted?.. (stands in front of own jeep to conceal presence of an EGR Bug Deflector.. lol)

These are actually worse than useless, they will cause harm to your vehicle. The net effect of having one of these is that you lower the number of dings on the hood/grill but increase the number of windshield chips. A Wrangler is to angular for them to work as intended.
