95 Sportage stalling

Hi all, I have a 95 Sportage which as been running fine until about 2 months ago, when the car just stopped running, while I was driving about 60 mph. I pulled off the side of the road, tried to start it again, it fired right up, and got me the 150 miles home. since then it has been stalling and trying to stall every so often. It may happen after 50 yards, or 50 miles. I took it to a shop, and they replaced the catalytic converter. It ran fine for about 200 miles then back with almost the same problem. This time when the car acts up, it doesn't just kill the motor entirely, just makes it half stall, with a total loss of power, then it all come back.....the machanic called it "chunking" as it makes the car accellerate, then decelerate, then accellerate, etc, making chunking noises, and making the car. After I took it back the machanic had the car for a few weeks, said the "cam sensor" was bad, he replaced it, and it still has the same proble. The check engine light comes on for a few seconds each time, but then turns off again. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a way I can get the computer codes via a key on/off sequence? Help!

I don't know if this will help, but I had the same problem with my old '92 Plymouth Sundance. Turned out to be a faulty MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure). Expensive little puppy on my car and I don't know if your Sportage has one.

Thanks for your input. Both fuel filters have been changed recently.. I've come to the conclusion that the stalling/etc happens only when I am on a very rough road (I live in the country) or when I hit major type bumps, like going over a set of railroad tracks, or such. I've been avoiding these situations, and avoiding the stalling. It's not "fixed" but at least there's a work-around of sorts. Mick

Its not missing, you have changed filters, and Catalitic, and other things. Even with new filters, I would put some really good gas, like the AMOCO FUELS white gas (showing my age eh) and run a couple of tanks through. This will allow cleaning of any deposits in the tank.

Breathing could be a factor as well. Check the air filter and O2 sensor. the regulation of the oxygen, in extreme cases, could cause the problem.
