24 volt 2.25 diesel - do they exist?

No DON'T. As mentioned elsewhere it's a very quick way to kill the batteries.

as a followup the local ex-mil landy place have said that they have done a couple of diesel swaps into 24v petrols and that the 12v starter will work quite happily on 24v exactly as is! (inc solenoid).

They reckon that in one that got used a lot daily the starter lasted for 3-4 years before wearing out - which probably isnt that different to normal! It also started easily :)

They also reckon that with petrol engines the 12v and 24v starters are identical (just different solenoids) which is why 24v landies turn over so damn quick! makes sense :)
