Get an ambulance body, bosh a few holes in it, bolt a park bench in the back, job done! Rear body is a fibreglass drop-on to the load bed, slide it off and you've got a straight pinz.

The hard-top version (712K) already has a few extra seats I think, but they're hard to find as they weren't popular with the military.

Bear in mind the 16MPG fuel figures, not sure if you can LPG it but I expect so (although I won't).

but more seriously - the pinzi should be easy enough to LPG. Are they air-cooled? if so, the heat exchanger aspect is a tad more tricky, but you can invent a thing involving a small circulating pump and tubing around the exhaust...

I used to MOT a Red Bull promotion Pinz. had hydraulic rams to lift the roof, disco lights ( not the LR type),turntables,speakers and a big sod off fridge for freebies had difficulty with the brake rollers so just had to give it a run up the road a thought occured to me then " gotta get me one o'them" not a great driving position aand this onewas leaft hand drive but really g ood fun

Yep. I put an absurdly low offer in on the one I saw on Wednesday (no service history, no proper test drive, large military company owner, not the guy's money he's dealing with, it's getting in their way) and it wasn't rejected or accepted, so perhaps next week I might be able to give you more detail ;-)

There's a heat exchanger on the exhaust already for the cabin heating, not sure quite how much heat you need for LPG however.

Yeah but liquid gas? It doesn't bear thinking about....

I think all of the older ones are lefties, damned furriners! Hardly likely to overtake much however.

Where was that? I was having a look online. Found 1 4x4 on eBay and an american site selling 'em for many dollars, and that was it.

not all that much, but most vapourisers are set up to work with liquid coolant. I've an idea someone did make one for air-cooled engines but I don't know any detail.

and i thought a 101 with a 3.5 v8 felt a bit sluggish!. Isnt a 2.5 petrol a bit underpowered?

I've got a WW2 GMC 6x6 'Jimmy', the rear 8 wheels are permanent drive with the the front 2 selectable, 6x4 or 6x6. There are 3 drive shafts coming out of the transfere box, 1 to the front and 1 each to each of the 2 axles. I've never heard of there being a problem with wind up with this arrangement.

Details kept under wraps until he's either accepted or rejected my offer ;-)

There's a dealer in Harrogate who sells them already LPG'd, I think it's the same chap who's selling the 4x4 on ebay.

It develops about 80BHP, which is a little less than my 110 300TDi did when I bought it, so yes it will seem sluggish! It does however weight about the same as the 110, not sure how much a 101 weights but the pinz is a much smaller vehicle than the 101.

If I get the chance to, I'll drive it on the roads to see what it's like but I don't think it's so bad as to be unuseable.

Cheers for that. Any idea why they chose that arrangement? It seems odd to run an extra shaft when drive could have been taken from the front-most rear axle. I suppose that making an axle with the pass-through might either be more complicated than I suspect or would have caused problems with spares.

It's less prone to immobilise itself, maybe. If you lose one shaft, the you lose all the back drive, with a pass-through diff. Also by doing it like that you should be able to use a single standard axle type for the back end.

Neither can I, it's not a valid excuse!

I suspect that it is rather difficuot to design a simple pass through conventional diff unless it is either hypoid, worm or double reduction. I have had experience with a 1950s Diamond T 6x6 that used a pass through diff - but it was easy as they were double reduction difs with the crown wheel and pinion geared to the main diff so that there was no diff centre or half shaft inside the crownwheel to complicate design. The other 6x6 truck we were using at the time (early sixties) was an International - it had a "centre diff" combined with the forward rear differential (although most internal components were identical between the two diffs) providing drive to the rear rear axle.
