96 Disco 1 P1176 Fuel trims Lean

Group,

This one has been running real well although milage not close to what I expected. Have a P1176 Code Long term fuel trim too lean Banks 1 and 2 (FMFR). I did clean the Mass Air when I tuned it and had the snorkle out. Looks like I need to watch the front O2 sensors to make sure they are not getting lazy and get some GPM info to see if the MAF is wacked. The MAF is Dated 2004 so thats been done but It was dirty and knowing these it probably needs one. Anyone gone to war with a P1176 and made out any different? I may start out with a smoke of the intake to make sure no leaks but she does run too good for that but it is either a positive lean (Leak) or a false positive based on eaither the O2 or MAF readings. Wonder if this is my gas demon.

How come a '96 vehicle has a '04 MAF? When were O2 sensors introduced? Is it a MAF or a AFM? Doesn't sound like an OEM installation?

Sounds like the MAF is the wrong one for that vehicle. A 1996 Disco should have a type 5AM (L/R part ERR5198: Lucas part 70410A) fitted.

All of this information is on the plate on the top of the MAF.
