Disco(2) roofrack

Who's got one? :o) I've just spent a bewildering hour in Halfrauds trying to work out how to bung a couple of suitcases up on top of the Disco when we go to the airport next week. Baffling number of alternative products, but despite charging eye-watering amounts all they appear to sell is some bars that will attach by some magic to the EXISTING 'lengthways' bars and go ACROSS the car. Quite what you do then, i.e. what then magics to that set of bars that will keep your case from laying on the roof, seemed way beyond their ability to grasp :o( Dont really want to buy a set anyway to be honest - I'll never use them again after this week. Anyone in the East Midlands area have a suitable contraption that they'd be prepared to 'hire' to me for a short time. Appropriate beer tokens available!

Drill some holes in a couple of planks and cable-tie them on.

I have some of the Halfords ones. IIRC they cost about =A350-=A360, and they clamp on. For extra =A3=A3=A3=A3 you could buy some locks to go with them. They are only juuust long enough, and are a bit fiddly to fit, but they do the job. I find tehm handy to have for those occasional trips to the timber yard.

You could also consider a small trailer

I'm in Boston, if thats any use you could borrow mine.

Trailer idea already came up, but the parking mob I've got the Disco staying at dont apparently have facilities for them (typical, I already HAVE a trailer!). But those Halfords ones just go across between your 'normal' bars, right? Dont you also need some sort of 'basket' or something to actually hold the items?

Oh, and I'm on the Sleaford edge of Lincoln, so Boston's nae far :o)

I guess you would need a roofbox. Mine are just bars, and you are seriously welcome to borrow them if you like. Does not really solve the storage problem. I looked into getting one recently. quite a lot on ebay. Probably cheap this time of year

You need the box as *well*!? Stuff that, I'll bungee strap it to the bonnet! It'd actually be bleedin cheaper to take a second car, JUST to get the luggage in! (But thanks for the very kind offer, btw. Much appreciated)

As one who usually travels alone I'm probably not the best to advise on this problem but ...

I must be missing something ... you've got so many bodies that some of their luggage won't fit in the the available space. Not even in the footwells, between the rear seats etc., stacked high in the back? Or is it such a long journey that would be too uncomfortable? But if you're only looking for two suitcases-worth of space there can't be too many bodies.

If you've got the longitudinal roof rails, all that's required is to lash two bits of timber across them and attach whatever you need to that platform.

5 peeps plus sufficient luggage for all of them to spend a month in the caribbean = more than the Disco will cope with. I'd take the 110 but I'm worried that its battery wouldn't last the full period we're away and I'm damned if I wanna jumpstart it at 6.30 on a cold morning after a 11 hour flight home!

You're doing very well restricting the extra to just two extra cases, then!

So all the seats are taken but you still have all the back. Patently obvious the suitcases are too big if you can't get all 5 of them in the back. Big cases are also heavy, ensure that everyone is able to carry their own case, unaided by anything or anyone else, at the very least

100yds.

Caribbean, your not going to be taking thick winter woolies. Seems to me the party hasn't heard of string and washing powder...

Take suitable tool to disconnect one of the terminals when you leave it.

Fat chance - I couldn't pack my lunchbox :o) 'Er indoors is good at jigsaws, so I give her all the cases and half an hour of juggling time.Shes normally fairly good at it but I think I'm setting her up to fail this time!

Ah, yes, well. One of my party is disabled, and wouldn't be able to walk the 100yds by herself, let alone with a case! And she also has two wheelchairs with her too :o(

LOL. I've got a wonderful mental picture of our cruise liner's flagpole, with all our washing pegged to it!

Well yes, there is that, and I might yet change my mind and take it rather than the Disco. But you hear so many stories of Defenders going walkabouts. Especially ones with a few 'toys' bolted to it. I could replace the Disco in 30 seconds, but I'm rather attached to the CSW!
