Disco 4.6 - Fettling time ;-)

Hi!

This is an odd one, a few questions in one.

  1. Overnight I am seemingly losing fuel....no leakage is visible. No smell of fuel, and no hint that I've been syphoned....any pointers? It's a 4.6 running a 3.9efi fuel system.

  1. When towing and hot, I am getting missfires (sounds like a rattle from the cats .. but it isn;t...). I had this sound when the vac advance failed. Surely the same has not happened again? They are not loud bangs...but enough to know the engine is not happy. This happens around the 2700rpm+ rev range. Again..any pointers?

Thanks in advance..

What's been done to the 3.9 efi system to correct the fuelling for the larger capacity engine? If nothing, then an overly weak mixture will result under load, which could be your second problem. Badger.

Hello, Badger!

It has the RPI Tornado chip fitted to deal with that.....

In that case, take it back to Norwich and tell that oh-so-nice!!!!! Mr Crane to fix it.(sorry, don't like him!) Sounds like it's running lean, so if all else (vacuum pipes, dizzy vac capsule, manifold gasket leaks etc.) are ok then it has to be something to do with the mapping I'd have thought. Worth also checking the small vac pipe to the fuel pressure regulator. Badger.

Hello, Badger!

Changed the AFM, stepper and ecu coolant temp sensor. Car starts nicely now, no stumbling, so that's kinda sorted. Where is this pipe of which you speak tho?

P.S. Going to try a modded 4.2 chip hopefully in the near future....

From the rear of the inlet manifold plenum chamber, next to the idle speed control stepper motor, going to one end of what looks like a small cannister with 2 fuel pipes attached to it, also at the rear of the plenum, towards the drivers side.

Glad to hear you got it running ok. Badger.

I'm putting a 4.2 in my 101. What chip are you planning and what's its behaviour/profile? Does it rely on other mods i.e cam etc?

Malcolm.
