Freenader Shuddering

Have a V6 auto Freelander.

It initially developed a noise which sounds like rear brakes grinding/ banging inside the hubs. Noticable at about 5 mph.

This evening it now has a shudder which runs through the vehicle as one accelerates through 30 mph. It then clears and runs fine. Doesn't do it every time but most of the time.

Doesn't seem to make the grinding/banging if freewheeling. So sort of discount the brakes.

Anyone any suggestion please?

Centre diff mounting perhaps?

Cheers Geoff

Viscous coupling failing would be my first thought.

Yep Viscous or the IRD unit on the rear diff for sure.

Took it into a local workshoop today and put it up on a ramp. The front propshaft boot had split where it meets the IRD flange and the propshaft moves within the flange and knocks. VC also gets warm so probably needs changing as well.

They are going to drain the IRD oil and inspect inside with a camera for damage. Then fit new front propshaft and VC. Hopefully got away with a bill for =A3800 :-(

Cheers Geoff
