guess-the-fault

vibes on the RRC. transmission frequency, i.e. not road-wheel or engine speed, same in any gear, most noticeable about 45 mph, not much below that and fades out above that. more obvious when accelerating.

place your bets now.

I reckon it's the rubber donut thing in the rear prop, assuming this one has such a thing, which I've yet to check.

Had same on the 110 about 8 years ago - gearbox rubber mount failed, transmission side. Badger.

Another question on a similar theme.

98 disco, but doubt it is model dependent! Had the same before on a hybrid. Vehicle runs fine forwards, well as well as a LandRover, Backwards, though, at snails pace, its lumpy? like the handbrake binding someplace.

I'd say the donut too if its got one. I had a terrible vibe on the disco when it went. Couldn't believe all that vibration and stuff from that thing.

Had same fault nearly exactly with a Disco 2 at work a few days ago. Removed propshafts alternately and drove it - fault still there. Even changed propshafts - still same. Drained transfer and auto oils looking for chunks/contamination but was ok except ATF was a little dark. We put it down to possibly had water in the auto and clutch packs were fried. Sent customer to auto specialist for more diagnosis along those lines, so we're none the wiser either.

On the DII, first thing to try is rotating the handbrake drum 180 degrees. Cures 90% of vib problems at or around 60mph. Badger.

Sounds about right, and is the most likely, but it could also be a UJ or drive flange bearing.

When I found the transmission mount on the 110 had gone, I'd already eliminated prop-shafts, wheel bearings, tyres and drive flanges. I only found it by jacking the vehicle off the ground (safely!) and running it in gear! My DII's vibration was, I assumed, the rubber do-nut coupling but when it checked out ok I found uneven tyre wear. I replaced all 4 tyres as they were getting low on tread anyway, but it still had an annoying vib at 65ish. Remembering the 110 from some years previous, I put it up on the ramps to check the transmission mounts and as a last-gasp turned the drum 180 degrees. Turning the drum cured it and I have since done the same on 3 or 4 other DII's for customers. Come on Austin, tell us what you've found...... Badger.

If I'd got the garage finished, I would've looked at it.
