I'm considering a P38 2.5 DSE with a manual box I've seen on Auto Trader. What are they like generally? I'm aware that the 2.5 is about as powerful as a hairdryer, and that it'll return 25-30Mpg, but whats it like with the manual box?
I'm looking for it to be my daily drive, but I only do about 25 miles a day plus a bit of weekend use, and I'll probably end up getting rid of my RRC 3.9.

Thats what I've read...but what about chipping them? How much more performance can be gained, and is it worth? Not that I'm after it from a performance point of view i.e. beating chavs from traffic lights (but I DO love doing that in the RRC!!), just considering options, but as long as it can hold up around 80 on the motorway then that'll do for me.
Not sure about the manual gearbox though. I'm hopefully going to look at it at the weekend and give it a drive..
According to LROI chip it and add a larger intercooler and you are looking in the region of 180 BHP which in my book makes it very driveable in addition the fuel consumption improves by around >10mpg so as soon as I can afford it one of the Disco's will be finding a new home Derek
I found mine to be ok despite what everyone says, don't ever recall having problems in day-to-day driving, overtaking etc. You don't need to drive very fast! I never drove the auto, but I do imagine that it is pretty slow in auto form. Manual gearbox wasn't the best to use - 5th was very sticky, but a lot better than the Renault that replaced it!
My average MPG was around the 24 mark. I think you'll struggle to get
30 unless on a gentle run - at least I did!Budget to replace the 4 suspension air bags and possibly compressor if the system has been neglected.
