road tax

Does anyone know what the road tax is on the Landover defenders, registered after March 2001? I assume that the county station wagon both 90 and 110 are taxed as a passenger car and will be taxed as band F or G. But what about the double cab, is this classed as a light goods vehicle and charged at £175 for 12 months.

Also some garages charge VAT on the 110 station wagons, but not on 90 station wagons, I don't understand the reason for this?

The reason for asking is I am thinking about replacing my 90 defender with a 110 in the near future.

Thanks Dave

I have a feeling that has something to do with the number of seats in the vehicle from what I recall of a conversation with a main dealer a while back.

The VAT on any commercial vehicle will be charged all the way down through the line until it passes through the hands of some one who is not VAT registered.

Once it has owned by someone who is not on the VAT scheme then it stops and it cannot jump back on to being Vatable.

Certain 110's fall into the VAT scheme due to number of seats (12 seaters) and the later ones due to load carrying capacity (1 ton). So my

9 seater 110 XS is VAT reclaimable due to the fact that is has the "heavy duty suspension" which is in fact just the fitting of the boost alloy wheels.

When I sell the vehicle it will have a VAT element that is reclaimable by another VAT registered buyer. But if I had not claimed the VAT back on it when I bought it then there would be no reclaimable element.

That is why you see some 110 csw's with VAT and some without.

Hello Mark Thanks for the reply, that now makes sense, why some second hand vehicles have VAT added to the sale price. Can you confirm if your vehicle has road tax for a car, or because it is subject to VAT do you pay the rate for a commercial vehicle?. This also appears to be confusing.

Thanks Dave

PLG and car tax are exactly the came thing It all depends on the emission band of the specific vehicle.

2001 - 2006 td5's are currently taxed at £180 for a 12 month period. (Taxed the wifes disco the other day)
