Yup. Perhaps you could have a ruddy great red and white thing like a level crossing gate lowered to inform it that such a thing was approaching.

That was suggested initially, until someone got worried about them confusing the car :-)

Yes and, thankfully, I've got away with it so far - I've never hit a train crossing the motorway. Nor been hit by one.

If you want to get an idea of what might happen you could try it out now. At least driverless cars would all do the same thing when they go into headless chicken mode.

If they are capable of executing well planned overtaking manoeuvres on NSL roads then I can't wait to share the roads with them. Even keeping over to the left and leaving a gap would probably be an improvement.

How about a hijacked steam train, and if necessary hacked to remove any AWS and TPWS?

With the sole purpose of mowing down some poor unfortunate in an automatically guided car? The precise location of which is not present on the web. OK it probably will be unless the passenger knows how to set "stealth" mode - which won't be the default and will be 20 menu options deep.

Simply add a whistle and bray detector. :-)

Half watching a programme on drivers over a 100 old years this evening, I remarked to the other half that with an expanding ageing population many of whom will have driving licences and be reluctant to give up driving then the development of driverless cars could be an answer for some and safer for those who have to use the same roads.
