"jumpstart" starter eliminates the need for a battery charger?

With these "jumpstart" power packs available from as little as 20 pounds (a lot on ebay too plus postage) there is really no need to own battery charger is there if you have a jumpstart?

I mean if you want a car started, the jumpstart will do it, and give the a car good run will charge the battery up soon enough better than any charger would.

But 'jumpstart' is just another battery charger. Yes, it also contains rechargeable battery, but I've seen better ones at TV auction sales.

This really a red herring. If the car battery is on it's last leg, then spend money instead on new one before winter. In any case, it's best for the battery cells to charge slowly rather than quickly. For anything else, jump cables to another car will do nicely. Why drive around with a heavy 'jumpstarter' in the boot? Just extra dead weight.

If a car battery can't start the car it means either it's knackered, a fault with the charging system, the car doing incredibly short journeys, or not being used for many days on end.

Giving the car 'a good run' is an extremely expensive way of charging the battery.

A big minus point with them for home use IMO, is that they have to be charged at regular intervals, to ensure the internal batteries are kept in good condition. If you don't, sods law dictates that the batteries will be flat when you need to use it. Best advice is to buy a trickle charger, just in case, and replace the cars battery before it fails. Mike.
