KA, what is this hole for?

Following the sticking revs problem of my SOs car after the little rear end bump I've had a good look round the car as it can't be repaired for a couple more weeks and she's nervous about driving it. Underneath it looks like the spare wheel was pushed into the boot causing the crease, also the spare wheel mounts are about 2mm from the 2 pipes that go from the filler cap to the tank, theory 1, is that one of these has been damaged (if it has it's not obvious) and I think the KA tank is pressurised - would a lack of pressure cause odd fueling? Theory 2 and the reason for the thread title is that I had a look under the bonnet, I had similarish symptoms with a 106 that had a couple of badly fitted vacuum pipes. I can't find anything dodgy with the pipes - but on the injector cover facing the bulkhead there is what looks to be a plastic outlet that should have a vacuum pipe on it - however I can't find the pipe. Is this supposed to be like this? It's directly left of the vacuum feed to the brake master cylinder.

Looks like we'll be putting up with it til it goes in, then I'll have the aggro of trying to prove to the garage that it's only been dodgy since the accident.

KA 1.3l, W reg.

mike. buckley ( snipped-for-privacy@toastyhamster.freeserve.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

It'll be academic. It'll be a write-off, surely?

By the time the whole arse is stripped out, the rear suspension off, the tank out, new boot floor and all the rest that nobody's noticed yet - it's only £2k worth of aging Ka...

That's what I thought. They'll never get the thing lined up right if they do repair it IMO.

I'd be bloody nervous about driving it. Nevermind the engine issue, the back end of the car's bent. Is the mrs any good at catching oversteer? If you're fully comp, go mental at the insurance company. If someone else drove into her, go mental at theirs.

Nah nah - it was only a light bump, there's no damage to any of the bumpers, even the number plate survived with a single crack, all the force went into the spare wheel and up to the boot floor where there is a 15mm crease. No damage to any suspension or visible paintwork, boot shuts fine etc. If the damage would have been caused by SO reversing into a bollard for example we'd not even bother getting it fixed.

We can't go mental at the 3rd parties insurance because although we have an address and two telephone numbers she's not returning any of our calls (or the Ins co.s) so we don't (yet) have her insurance details.

So - back to the original question - what's the hole for?

Get Mr Plod involved?

When someone ran into the side of me, i was chatting to my insurance broker and he told me about a Third Party Loss Recovery Co called Centrus - Based in Rochdale (01706No), or some such, i still have the number somewhere if you would like it.

Basically in clear cut no fault accidents, even tough my car was still drivable, just, the organised a courtesy car, repairs, they got their money sorted out, personal injury ( if i had had any and wished to claim).

All it cost me was a £10 insurance against me telling fibs, and £30 for the tank full of fuel on the courtesy car, (both refundable on success of the claim/sending the courtesy car back full)

Shout if you want more details!

My Missus's R reg 1.2 Corsa had over =A31k's worth of body repair=20 (including boot floor in one incident), twice.

Two seprate rear end/rear quarter shunts, both over a grand to fix, both=20 approved and repaired.

Wouldn't be too upset if they did write it off - been a bit of a jinx, piston ring went at 8k, somebody twatted and bent a front wheel, somebody hit it while parked and fecked off, leaving us with a 300 quid bill, usual Ka brake disk rust failure at 20k, door handle clips rusted and snapped. Scrambling under the car yesterday found a very tired looking exhaust and a serious amount of rust on the petrol tank (can deal with that).

So - what's the hole for then?!

Do you have the means of getting a picture up? You can either email it to me, or host it and show it in the

forums?

This is a common Ka rear end thing - it can mean a write off, but the boot floor is designed to crease.

I don't know if it should or shouldn't, but the couple I know of that have had a fuel leak, it made no difference. ;)

I'm struggling to visualise this. Have a gander at

and see if we have a pipe that you don't have.

That said, there are two different servo designs.

To be fair, if you have a fuel tank problem - or suspect that this is the case - perhaps tell your insurance company and ask that you take it to a Ford dealership to have it checked over... at their expense.

Aha - this is what I was looking for, a picture :-) On the top left of your picture there is a white label - the plastic outlet is to the left of that on the big plastic *thing* that the air intake tube goes into.

Yup, and that's what we'll be doing - I was hoping to find the problem first so I could prove it was the accident that caused it and not have to argue the toss with a garage.

Thanks

Aha, you see the white label on the pipe just below the strut brace? The bit we don't have a pipe on is exactly where the left hand side of the white label ends. it looks like you have a pipe on there - I might have another look this weekend. I'll be driving it all next week cos the garage can't get us in any earlier - and if the problem is simply a pipe come off then I might as well have a gander at it.
