Losing my touch

Just had the door pockets off the wife's Clio to fix the window switches (contact pressure too low so the contacts were burnt black and had never worked since we got it). Took the opportunity to take the sun roof out and remove the old seal and reseal with clear mastic round the frame in the hope that it'll keep the water out. Also fixed the lazy motor on the central locking (iffy contact in the plug).

What's worrying me is that I haven't got /any/ screws left over.

I always put a handful of assorted screws in the tray before I start dismantling. That way there's bound to be a few left over. Or so you'd think.

You obvious dropped one while doing it. It's on the garage floor.

I always figure a couple of screws go off to that place in the sky where black biros and odd socks live. Who am I to argue with higher powers ?

You have some cracking taglines ;-)

Except those known as "shoulder bolts" which are those left over at the end which we all know are chucked over the shoulder into the dark corner when no one's looking.

Why is it covered in screws?

The biros all live down the back of the rear seats, or behind the dashboard.

You're probably doomed then. According to The Book of Ultimate Truths by Robert Rankin you must never try to find out where the extra screw left over in any job comes from. If it works leave it alone because finding the hole for the extra screw will stop the device working. It is possible to drive some one mad by leaving a few extra screws lying around after they think they've finished.
